This Privacy Policy describes how Screen Translate ("we", "our", or "the app") handles information when you use our Android application. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

1. Information We Do NOT Collect

Screen Translate does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information, including but not limited to:

Names, email addresses, or phone numbers
Location data
Contacts or call logs
Photos, files, or media (other than temporary screen captures for translation)
Account credentials or passwords

2. Screen Capture & Text Recognition

The app uses Android's MediaProjection API to capture what is currently displayed on your screen. This data is:

Processed locally on your device using on-device OCR (Google ML Kit) to extract visible text
Used solely for the purpose of translation
Never stored, logged, or transmitted to our servers
Immediately discarded after the translation is completed

3. Translation Services

The extracted text is sent to third-party translation APIs (Google Translate, DeepL, Microsoft Azure Translator, or Naver Papago) based on your selected engine. These services process the text solely to return a translation. Please refer to each provider's privacy policy for details:

4. AI Assist (ChatGPT)

When the AI Assist feature is enabled, extracted text may be sent to OpenAI's API for OCR error correction before translation. This data is used solely for text correction and is subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

5. Firebase Services

The app uses Firebase services provided by Google:

Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics — Collects anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to help us improve the app. This data does not identify individual users.
Firebase Remote Config — Used to deliver configuration settings to the app.

6. Google Play Billing

Premium features are processed through Google Play's billing system. All payment information is handled entirely by Google. We do not have access to your payment details.

7. Permissions

The app requests the following permissions, each used solely for its stated purpose:

Display over other apps — To show the floating translation overlay
Screen capture — To read visible text via OCR for translation
Internet — To communicate with translation APIs
Vibration — To provide haptic feedback when text is detected
Notifications — Required for the foreground service indicator

8. Children's Privacy

Screen Translate is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
